Eagle Cap Excursion Train: “Enjoy a Ride Without the Drive.”
As the Summer draws to a close and seasonal events wind down, the Eagle Cap Excursion Train Ride remains a family-friendly time capsule experience that continues until the end of the year! The train itself is comprised of a vintage Mid-Century diesel engine with passenger cars that gently rattle, just like they would have 80 years ago. With heating and air conditioning and tour dates scheduled 7 months per year, this train ride is both comfortable and enjoyable for a variety of ages and interests!
Traveling from a small agricultural town to lush forest, the Eagle Cap Excursion Train Ride features quintessential scenery of Eastern Oregon: wildlife, foliage, farms, and forest. The breathtaking flora and fauna flanking the Grand Ronde River ensure a calming visual display which pairs authentically with the industrial humming of the train. On a normal day, a historical presentation is made by handsomely-dressed engineers, volunteers serve delectable scones, and the trip takes about 3.5 hours- perfect for a half day of adventure. During other seasons and dates, there are themed rides that add to the entertainment such as the High Country Outlaws Robbery, the Bigfoot Special, Fall Foliage, and the Stationary Train Christmas Dinner.
Children giggle delightfully as they explore the train, and it’s easy to see how a ride like this could be great for other things besides recreation. My own ride was a perfect bonding time with a dear Board Member, and together we solved the world’s problems in short order! Similarly, when a couple or a group might want to get away, this setting is perfect for wedding receptions, Board Retreats, team building exercises, or even a fundraiser; Charter rides are available as well as entire car reservations.
Next time wanderlust calls and something new is in order, consider a trip back in time on the Eagle Cap Excursion Train!
