Every community has its share of establishments that could be classified as community staples.
Milton-Freewater has such a place - Sub Shop 38.
Think of yourself as a downtown business owner, or a staff member at Gib Olinger Elementary School, or a student at McLoughlin High. Isn't it nice to know that if you are hungering for a filling lunch or early supper that is within walking distance that Sub Shop 38 fits the bill? Many a customer, I'm venturing to guess, would respond affirmatively.
Sub Shop 38 presents its customers with a canyon-like range of half and full sandwich options including an Italian lover's delight that spotlights ham, salami, and pepperoni.
For those of you who desire an avalanche of meat, I suggest the Destroyer, Fullboat, or Guttbomb. These menu choices feature eight, seven, and five meats, respectively.
Two of my personal favorites are the tuna and meatball subs. The first will please those feeling a bit fishy and the latter is sure to please those wanting to be a bit saucy.
Suppose you'd like to add an element or two to better your sandwich. Sub Shop 38's creations offer enhancers such as lettuce, onions, tomatoes, cucumbers, mayonaise, mustard, oil and vinegar.
I have also enjoyed bread bowls on past visits to this quaint establishment. The idea of soup or chile contained in the aforementioned bowl is a pleasant one indeed. This item has been an on-again and off-again idea but, if offered, give it serious consideration.
Also give thought to completing your order with a fountain drink, chips, cookies, or various candies.
Sub Shop 38 - a place for all ages and appetites both big and small.
